U-Boat surrender and Kindertransport to be commemorated

A £319,800 grant has been awarded to the Harwich Haven Surrender to Sanctuary project to create a series of events to mark the anniversary of these significant moments in history.

The arrival of the Kindertransport –the first Jewish refugee children – and the centenary of the surrender of the German U-boat fleet in 1918 will both be marked with events such as a memorial parade and a travelling U-boat. This project will continue for a full year, and will be based in Harwich.
